LuLu wins Arabian Business Excellence Award 2009

Mr. Yusuffali MA, Managing Director of Lulu Hypermarket Group recieving the award from Mr. Walid Akawi, CEO of ITP Group, the publishers of Arabian Business magazine.

Dubai: Lulu hypermarket chain has been honored with one of the top regional business awards. The annual Arabian Business Excellence Award in the category of Retail Company of the Year has gone to Lulu Hypermarket group. Lulu bagged the prestigious award on the basis of its remarkable achievements in the retail sector of the Middle East where it commands more than 32% of the organized retail market.

The awards were presented yesterday at a glittering function held in Dubai under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan BIn Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.In all, 13 comapnies were awarded in different categories with the lifetime achievement award going to HE. Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer, chairman of Emirates NBD and Commercial Bank of Dubai and governor of Dubai International Financial Centre. Previous winners have included HRH Prince Alwaleed, King Mohammed VI of Morocco, King Abdullah of Jordan and HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

Speaking to media, after the award ceremony Yusuffali said " I consider this as an honour for us to be selected as the retail company of the year. Lulu Hypermarket currently has 76 hypermarkets and supermarkets all over the Gulf catering to more than 340,000 shoppers a day and employs more than 22,000 employess from 29 different countries.
